Michał Szumlas uzyskał dyplom Akademii Sztuk Pięknych we Wrocławiu zaledwie w ubiegłym roku, mimo to wystawa „Diagnoza dynamiki” nie jest jego wystawą debiutancką. Ciekawy cykl wcześniejszych prezentacji wskazuje nie nieustanny rozwój młodego artysty i jego zapał do poszukiwania coraz to nowych sposobów wypowiedzi oraz eksperymentowania z formą. Tym razem artysta dokonuje interesującej syntezy dwóch, pozornie rozbieżnych, dziedzin sztuki – rysunku i rzeźby, a wszystko to w postaci procesu, działania. Jak sam mówi: „Mój zamysł towarzyszący powstawaniu serii prac z pogranicza działań rysunkowych i dyscypliny rzeźbiarskiej to transkrypcja zapisu graficznego w obiekt przestrzenny.”
Najistotniejszy dla artysty jest zatem proces twórczy, który rozumie on jako nieustanne przeobrażanie się. Tytuł wystawy nawiązuje do terminu w psychologii określającego zmienność w zakresie procesów poznawczych, emocjonalnych. Dotyczy to również obiorcy, któremu autor proponuje swobodny odbiór, raczej całości dzieła, niż jego poszczególnych elementów. Oferuje mu spójną, nierozerwalną opowieść, dla której każda z realizacji jest rodzajem innego potraktowania problematyki podjętego tematu.

Michał Szumlas ur. w 1998 w Częstochowie. Absolwent Zespołu Szkół Plastycznych im. Jacka Malczewskiego w Częstochowie, dyplom w 2017 roku. W latach 2017-2023 studiował w Akademii Sztuk Pięknych we Wrocławiu, na Wydziale Rzeźby i Mediacji Sztuki, kierunek Rzeźba. W 2023 roku uzyskał dyplom magisterski na kierunku rzeźba, promotor prof. Grażyna Jaskierska-Albrzykowska, oraz aneks z rysunku, promotor dr hab. Bogna Kozera Radomska.
W 2019 roku uzyskał stypendium artystyczne Prezydenta miasta Częstochowy oraz nominację w konkursie na najlepszą rzeźbę roku ASP Wrocław 2019. It was only last year that Michał Szumlas received a degree from the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław and yet, “Diagnosis of Dynamics” is not his debut exhibition. An intriguing series of previous expositions indicates the young artist’s continuous development and his zeal for exploring new ways of expression and experimenting with form. This time, the artist blurs the lines between two seemingly divergent fields of art – drawing and sculpture – capturing a process, an action. As he says, “The idea behind creating a series of works bordering between drawing and sculpture is a transformation of a graphic record into a spatial object.”
Therefore, what is most important to the artist is the creative process, which he perceives as a constant transformation. The title of the exhibition refers to the term in psychology that denotes variability in both cognitive and emotional processes. The author suggests that his works are to be seen as a dynamic whole made of dissimilar pieces. The recipients are presented with a coherent, inseparable story. Each of its elements represents an individual approach to the topic.
Michał Szumlas was born in 1998 in Częstochowa. He graduated from the Jacek Malczewski Visual Art School Complex in Częstochowa and received his diploma in 2017. From 2017 to 2023, he studied at the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław, Faculty of Sculpture and Art Mediation, majoring in Sculpture. In 2023, he graduated with a Master’s degree in Sculpture from the studio of prof. Grażyna Jaskierska-Albrzykowska and obtained an annex in drawing under the tutelage of dr hab. Bogna Kozera-Radomska.
In 2019, he was granted the artistic scholarship of the Mayor of Częstochowa. Szumlas was also nominated in the best sculpture competition for 2019 at the Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław.
